I love hand making products from different materials, exploring what can be done in a new way and rediscovering traditional techniques. I have been designing and making products for 15 years and making furniture has been a passion of mine for even longer.
I had always had the idea that running a business would be the career path for me, so when I moved to Finland I started a furniture design studio.
My plan was to work with my clients to design and make pieces of furniture for their home. I would sit down with every client and discuss what they wanted, how they wanted it to work and the features like materials and size. My aim was to make the pieces of furniture truly unique for each client.
There is a certain time in a business that you feel that something is not quite right, it can be a slow growing feeling or one that jumps out and slaps you in the face. I had the latter.
It was one lost client who had amazing ideas for a dining table. While we went through the design process, which took several weeks, we came up with a great design. This would have been a statement piece of furniture for this client's house. Once we agreed on the design I gave a full costing for the table. This was the point where I got the proverbial slap in the face. The client's response was “What??? I can go to IKEA and get a table for 500 euros.”
It was at this time that I began to review how I interacted with clients, how my process went, and started to take a deep dive into how people buy furniture and how people would buy products in the future.
This was the birth of Darades Studios. Extended Reality, the Metaverse and a platform that gathers the most creative and distinctive designers, artisans and craftspeople from around the world .
